34 Thoughts I Had While Reading TBWSH

Hey there! Today I wanted to review The Boy Who Steals Houses, written by our very own fellow book blogger/author, Cait @ Paper Fury! I finally finished it last night and WOW. It definitely joins my list of favorites!

I’ve seen some other bloggers do short little “thoughts I had while reading etc…” reviews, and I knew I thought this book would be a good one to try it with to get all my thoughts down semi-coherently without rambling too much in a review and having long blocky paragraphs that might end up spoiling everything. XD

I think more than one blogger has done something like this, but I don’t remember where I saw it, so if this was you’re idea, I give you the credit! ❀

My Rating:

*I tried my best to keep spoilers out, but there might be some tiny ones. I’m pretty sure they won’t give away anything too important, but proceed with caution!

  1. Wow, I can already relate to the mental health rep in this.
  2. “He’s stealing families and their Sunday lunches.” πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Oh this is awesome!
  3. Okay I’m at the part where where Moxie is talking to him for the first time and OMG I love this! It’s so cute and awkward! Cait is so great at dialogue. πŸ˜‚
  4. Okay. Moxie is freaking awesome. πŸ˜‚
  5. Oh man I just genuinely LOVE Cait’s writing! Her dialogue is just the right amount of quirkiness but still feels so relatable and funny doesn’t feel unrealistic at all to me.
  6. Wow, I can really relate to Avery. I don’t know if I have autism, but I do have anxiety, and I have had people in the past treat me like I’m crazy because I’m “too old to be acting this way.” I know what it feels like to have your brain just shut down when you get too overstimulated and overwhelmed so you aren’t even able to function like an adult. And sadly society doesn’t accept that. It’s not like you can control it sometimes. I really appreciate Cait’s depiction of that hard truth, though it was hard for me to read because it reminded me of my own experience.
  7. Ugh I was going to get up early to write tomorrow but this is so hard to put down! It’s 1 am and I need to sleep! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜΄
  8. OMG the glitter bomb may be the best self-defense technique I have ever seen. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  9. Okay see, Sam is a criminal I can actually love and sympathize with. I can see myself in him and he hates what he is and wants to change, and that makes him deserve to have a better life. Why is everyone with so in love with characters like Kaz Brekker? I don’t get it. 🀨
  10. Noooooo! Don’t go with Vin! 😱
  11. Yeah Sam. I really don’t blame you for wanting to break her kneecaps. Now you’ll show her how “cute” you are!
  12. I really shouldn’t be encouraging this, especially with what I said about loving that he wants to be better…but wow. This girl is evil. How DARE She?! Get her Sammy! 😠
  13. At least they could feel like they were normal kids with the trampoline. 😭
  14. Ugh I wish the only time I could make to read this wasn’t before I go to bed, cuz it’s SO hard to put down! I think about it a lot when I’m not reading it; I really don’t know how it’ll end! πŸ˜„
  15. Awe, that florist was so nice. 😊
  16. Okay, I never read books for the romance, but wow this is one of the really good ones! Every time Moxie and Sam interact it genuinely makes me smile. 😍😍😍
  17. Ahhhhhh! I’m internally screaming with feels! I love the De Laineys! I really want this to have a hopeful ending. 😍
  18. “Grady eats and reads and doesn’t get a single drop on his paperback, which is probably a sign of dark magic.” -Wow, if I had any doubts that Cait wrote this, I don’t now! That line was so her. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I LOVE IT!
  19. Ugh the De Laineys are seriously just so great. This book makes my heart so happy! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ I think it might end up being 5 stars?
  20. Awwwwwe it’s so cute how he helps Moxie babysit! πŸ₯°
  21. Awwwwwwwwe he’s turning into a De Lainey!
  22. That shopping cart scene. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  23. Oh no… 😨
  24. No! 😫
  25. Noooooooo πŸ₯Ί
  26. NOOOOOOOOO 😭😭😭
  27. What’s going to happen to them now? 😱
  28. Awe my poor heart! 😭
  29. Awe, when Mr. De Lainey talked to him at the end it literally made me cry. 😒
  30. Oh I’m so happy I survived the ending! I think it ended the way it needed to, though it was kind of bittersweet like with A Thousand Perfect Notes. But I’m so glad there was some hope there cuz I was so worried it would be too depressing for a second. πŸ˜…
  31. Ugh. Wow. This book touched my heart so much! I cried at Mr. De Lainey’s talk at the end, and with the last line of Cait’s acknowledgments at the back because I can relate so much. 😍😭
  32. I LOVED this book! I loved that it was about family, love, forgiveness, and wanting to be better and figuring out how to do it. πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ˜‡
  33. I think it was so much better than ATPN, not that it was bad or anything, but you can see how Cait’s writing has grown between them and has developed everything a little bit more. You can clearly feel her unique voice in it and you can tell how much this story meant for her to write it. I connected with it so much more than ATPN too with my own experiences, and it made me smile and laugh so much, and it made me cry too, but in the very best way. 😭😍😊
  34. It’s definitely a new favorite and I will cherish it in my heart forever! ❀️❀️❀️
Have you read this book yet? OMG you should it’s so great!!!! ❀ What did you think of my brief little review format experiment thing? Should I write more like this? What great books have you read lately?

  1. I haven’t read any of her books yet, but they are both on my TBR and sitting in my TBR Jar! I love her blog, and it’s amazing that she has enough reach to also sell here! (You don’t tend to get as many books here in NZ as the states bc we are so far away 😦 )

    1. You should read them!!!!!! πŸ˜€
      I love her blog too!
Well I’m in the U.S. and I had to order it on Book Depository to get a physical copy. She’s only published with a UK publisher so I wouldn’t see her books in any stores near me. :/ But I’m glad there’s Book Depository cuz I got TBWSH for only like $9 I think and shipping is free! πŸ™‚
